Use of Talcum Powder Cancer Lawsuit

Talc is made up mostly of magnesium, silicon, and oxygen, which, when ground into a powder form, can absorb moisture.  For decades, talcum powder has been widely used to help keep skin dry and to prevent irritation and rashes.  But when used on or near the female genitals, particles can travel into the ovaries and remain there for years, causing inflammation and leading to the growth of cancer cells.

The known link between Johnson & Johnson’s products containing talcum powder and ovarian cancer is not new.  It dates back to the early 1970s when studies of ovarian cancer patients showed particles of talc in their ovarian tissue.

In fact, a study by a Harvard doctor estimates that talc in hygiene products may be a contributing factor in the development of ovarian cancer in as many as 10,000 women each year.

Despite the scientific evidence, talcum powder continued to be sold by Johnson & Johnson, unregulated and without any warning from the manufacturer.

Recent Updates:

  • March 23, 2023: Johnson & Johnson announced it will appeal its 3rd Circuit bankruptcy loss to the U.S. Supreme Court.

  • February 25, 2023: Representative Steven Cohen (D-Ten) demands the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) investigate into how much money the Johnson & Johnson talcum powder products have cost the U.S. government.
